Shin very rarely shopped for himself. Poking around stalls and looking at vendors often resulted in a multitude of things to give other people and nothing to keep for his own sake. If he was lucky he managed to get away with a small bottle of alcohol that would remain in the cabinet it was stored in until Shin had particular reason to use it. He did not drink himself, for he was impossibly easy to intoxicate on even the weakest sake, but he could see the uses of storing it for guests.
Today he had stopped at the market on the way home and had looked through the various things presented as he was apt to do, as something of a hobby. The out-door vendors were mostly closed up this time of the year but the shops were still open and selling their wares. Shin had ducked into the first one he'd come across an had spent nearly an hour browsing before he became aware of how long he was wasting. On his way out however, something had caught his eye near the front. It was a comb, long and elegant with an arched back. Closer inspection revealed it to be made of pure tortois shell, with the delicate carvings of sakura flowers littering the front and back of the handle. The carved lines were painted rich red, giving it a beautiful sunken look. He had had it boxed up and paid for immediately.
The walk home was filled with the anticipation of seeing his lover - Shin had to suppress the happy sigh - and watching his smile light up when he walked in the door. Having Akako waiting for him made the cold walk through snow and slush more bearable, he thought.
Reaching his front door Shin pushed it open and stepped inside, glad for the sudden burst of heat that the well-lit fireplace provided. Tucking the small wrapped box under one arm, shrugging out of his fur-lined robe and kicking off his shoes, the master of the home brushed snow from his hair and went in search of his permenant houseguest.
