Name: Mitsutashi Usagi (Japanese Style)
Age: 8
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Occupation: Squad 4 of the Army - Medic Division. Usually as the gopher.
Physical Description:
Powers/Skills: Usagi is an extremely gifted healer for her age, able to use her magic to heal light wounds, staunch bleeding,
purge food poisoning and cure the symptoms of the common cold. While she learns many more spells from the doll, she lacks the ability to use them yet, as her
body and mind have not had time to develop enough to access the energy necessary to cast them.
Background: Perhaps a decade ago, there was a very powerful healer who lived on the outskirts of the kingdom. Many had lost
count of her years, but all knew that if there was an ailment no other treatment would cure, you could go to her and she would be able to heal you. Over the
decades, many different troubles were brought before her and none found her impotent. It was even rumored that she could cure death, itself, though never
proven.
Whether or not she could return life to the body of another, she could not stave off her own death forever, and when the full weight of her years came to press down upon her, she attempted one final spell, an attempt to continue her life in a new vessel. She did not do so for her own desires, but because she couldn't bear to leave so many without aid, for she had no successor, no apprentice. Any hopeful had been quickly drafted by the military, hoarded for their own soldiers so they could continue to inflict harm on their enemies, and many, unfortunately, were only minorly-gifted, anyway, unsuited for the lessons she had to share.
She miscalculated the time she had left, however, and she felt her life flicker before she could finish the spell. She panicked and the spell went awry, and instead of giving her new life, it sealed her consciousness within a stuffed animal nearby. She was a wise woman, however, and devout to the gods. She did not bemoan this change, but accepted it as a sign that it was not her role to continue. Because of her form, she cannot cast her magic, but she can still travel and communicate. Using this to her advantage, she traveled about until she was found by a child, Usagi, then just three. Even at that age, the old healer could feel the potential in the child. This, she decided, was her proper successor, and she decided she would teach the child all she knew, and one day, she would be powerful enough, not just to heal others as she once did, but to heal her, as well.
Two years later, Usagi was found healing a beggar who had gotten beaten up by someone not interested in donating. She was immediately whisked off to the military and for the last three years, has been, perhaps not the only magic-user there of her age, but the youngest healer in the Healer's Hall. Begrudging the military as she did, the old healer accepted this turn of events as necessary. Healing beggars would not have sufficed for training much longer and the military would provide the next level necessary to continue shaping her apprentice.
Usagi is an incredibly cheerful and energetic child, always bubbling with happiness. Nothing ever seems to depress her, an energy that has rubbed off somewhat on the old healer, who has never told Usagi of her origins, allowing the child to continue believing she just has a magical and very knowledgeable doll. While caring deeply for the child, the old healer often allows herself to take a relationship of two friends, teaching and instructing without the harsh rod of discipline. Such is something she has not needed, as Usagi is always ready and willing to learn and loves to help others without having to be encouraged to do so.
